Aceites esenciales y sus constituyentes para hacer frente a las bacterias patógenas

Los aceites esenciales son pequeñas gotas intercelulares, cuyos constituyentes son ésteres, alcoholes, hidrocarburos aromáticos, terpenos, terpenoides, cetonas, ácidos, y aldehídos. Su potencial como antimicrobianos naturales depende de la composición química del aceite, y de las estructuras bacterianas Gram+ y Gram-. Por lo tanto, esta revisión considera la comprensión química de los aceites esenciales, y continúa con la interpretación de las principales estructuras bacterianas. Al final se presenta información sobre el efecto de los aceites esenciales en el ensamblaje de lípidos en la pared celular bacteriana, la fuga de iones, la desnaturalización de proteínas celulares, el escape de material citoplásmico, la alteración de la cadena respiratoria y finalmente la lisis bacteriana.
