Use of cinnamon essential oil in livestock production systems
Keywords:
Cinnamomum verum, production, health, animalAbstract
Currently there is a global trend to use essential oils from various aromatic plants to optimize livestock production systems, this is an alternative to reduce the use of chemical products which can have negative effects on the health of consumers; the use of essential oils from aromatic plants such as cinnamon (genus: Cinnamomum) have been shown to have beneficial properties in animal production, however, these properties have not been fully clarified, which is why the objective of the review literature was to make a preliminary analysis of the use of cinnamon in livestock production systems. In conclusion, it can be said that the use of essential oils of cinnamon, mainly from the species Cinnamomum zeylanicum, Cinnamomum cassia and Cinnamomum camphora, have been an alternative as feed additives in the production of domestic animal species where it has been been able to improve nutrition, prevent diseases and improve the immune system of animals, which contributes to improving the productivity of the various animals production systems.
