Seroprevalência de Neospora caninum em cães rurais e urbanos no sudeste do Estado do México

Resumo

Neospora caninum é o agente etiológico da neosporose em bovinos e cães, é considerado como uma das principais causas de aborto em vacas; em cães infectados intra-uterinos e imunossuprimidos, causa lesões multissistémicas e são considerados os hospedeiros definitivos. O objectivo deste estudo era determinar a seroprevalência contra o Neospora caninum em cães urbanos e rurais do sudeste do Estado do México e a sua associação com factores de risco para esta espécie. Utilizando amostras de conveniência não-probabilística, foram obtidas 70 amostras de soro de cães numa zona urbana e 76 numa zona rural. As informações sobre idade, sexo, dieta e ambiente foram obtidas por meio dum questionário. A análise estatística foi feita por qui-quadrado, determinação do razão de probabilidade (OR) e regressão múltipla linear discriminante. A seropositividade global do Neospora caninum por IFA foi de 51,3% (75/146), em cães urbanos 48,6% e em cães rurais 53,9% (p=0,314). Para o factor idade, a seropositividade aumentou com o aumento da idade; o consumo da placenta foi reconhecido como um factor de risco. É identificada uma ampla distribuição do Neospora caninum em cães, bem como uma exposição constante ao Neospora caninum na área de estudo.
