Tilápia, peixe ciclídeo de alto valor socioeconômico, como hospedeiro de parasitas trematódeos com potencial zoonótico

A produção e o consumo de tilápia (Cichlidae) são muito populares no mundo, de modo que a segurança
da carne produzida deve ser garantida devido ao risco potencial de transmissão zoonótica de parasitas;
portanto, o objetivo deste trabalho foi realizar uma revisão da literatura sobre a prevalência, a distribuição
e os hospedeiros envolvidos no ciclo de vida de helmintos trematódeos que podem ser transmitidos
zoonóticamente no consumo de tilápia. A revisão da literatura foi realizada usando seis mecanismos de
busca especializados. Um total de 1.044 artigos foi analisado, dos quais 113 incluíam dados
epidemiológicos. A tilápia foi relatada como hospedeira intermediária de 15 espécies de trematódeos que
afetam os seres humanos, 6 parasitas foram relatados em nível de gênero e 2 parasitas em nível de família.
Os trematódeos descritos pertencem às famílias Heterophyidae e Opisthorchiidae. As prevalências
registradas variaram de 1% em infecções por Haplorchis pumilio e Centrocestus formosanus a 93,64% em
infecções multiparasitárias por Haplorchis yokogawi, Pygidiopsis genata e Phagicola ascolonga. Embora a
biodiversidade de helmintos documentada na tilápia seja abundante, ainda não há informações suficientes
disponíveis, o que coloca a tilápia como um potencial transmissor desses helmintos para os seres
humanos.
